Supervised Family Time Service
Scope of this chapter
This chapter details the processes required for organising support for children to have supervised family time.
Supervised family time is delivered by Swan Family, a commissioned provider, who will arrange supervised family time, safe transportation of children to sessions where deemed appropriate by the social worker, produce observational reports and coordinate 3-monthly reviews.
Referrals for supervised family time should be made using the ‘supervised contact’ form downloaded from Liquid Logic. Completed forms should be sent to the appropriate centre on the following addresses:
- North Centre (Kirkdale) - liverpoolnorth@swanfamily.org.uk;
- South Centre (Wavertree) - liverpoolsouth@swanfamily.org.uk.
The provider will ensure that the supervised family time is arranged and in place within five working days of receipt of the referral from the social work teams. There is a priority system for children such as new-born babies who require a more timely response.
Upon receipt of the referral the provider will organise and undertake a planning meeting with the parents, social worker and where appropriate the child(ren), and if required arrange a risk management meeting with the child’s social worker. The provider will ensure that a written supervised contact agreement is signed by the parents, key professionals, and any other significant adults and agreed by the social worker / manager.
NO supervised family time referrals will be progressed without a completed liquid logic referral form.
The provider will provide professional electronic observational reports of all supervised contact to the child’s social worker within five working days of the contact having taken place. Once received, reports should be uploaded to the child’s electronic record on Liquid Logic within five working days.
The provider will inform the child’s social worker about all missed or failed family time sessions by 10am the following day and at weekends by 10am on the following Monday
The contact plan will be reviewed every three months, or sooner on request, and any amendments agreed with the social worker, child where appropriate, parents and carers. Reviews will:
- Assess the current contact arrangements as agreed in the original referral, whilst taking into consideration the child's care plan, wishes and views of the child/ren, possible legal proceedings, quality of sessions and parent/s commitment
- Gather up to date information and any changes to the arrangements in place
- Consider suitability of frequency and volume of contact and the overall balance to the child's needs, wishes and feelings, life balance and care plan
Upon completion of the supervised family time sessions the provider will present a written report (Closure Document) of the full outcome of the family time to the child’s social worker.
